breeders and people of interest to see what different clevelands lines look like.
The Cleveland Bay is a category 1 rare breed (ie critical)
of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. Under 50 pure bred Clevelands are register
each year, half of those likely to be colts, the remainder of which may not
survive to maturity and others which arent used for breeding. The breed
originated in Yorkshire as a pack horse carrying loads across ground other
horses could not manage. These hardy horses were crossed with imported
Arabs resulting in a multipurpose horse which could be used in Agriculture,
Riding horse or Carriage horse. Todays Cleveland is still a
multipurpose horse with purebred competing successfully in all disciplines
as well as being an ideal family horse.
Out Clevelands live out all year round with shelter and
good quality forage, no hard feed just mineral supplements, they are hardy and
healthy, an easy horse for busy owners
